3rds travelled to Lilleshall for todays game against Newport in the top half of the table.
For the first 20 mins Wulf’s were struggling to cope with the pace and directness of younger opposition. During those 20 minutes the game was predominantly played in Wulf’s own half, with Dill (GK), being called into action to keep Newport out until finally Wulf’s defence yielded to go 1 down on 10 mins and 2 down on 30.
Just before conceding that 2nd goal 3rds were starting to get some joy and were now playing more like a team. On 32 they got their just rewards when Sahib surged forward from midfield to receive a well placed pass just inside at the top of the D which was cooly dispatched into the net to reduce the deficit to 1 goal.
2-1 down at half time but showing promise.
With the second half underway it only took 3 minutes for Newport to restore their two goal lead through a penalty stroke awarded for an infringement by Wulf’s defence. Wulf’s were definitely having more of the ball and play in this half but still fell further behind on 38 & 52 minutes to find themselves 5-1 down. Undeterred Wulf’s battled hard but often fell short in the final third. That was until on 58 minutes Jandu received a smart pass again at the top of the D and with a nice instinctive turn dispatched the ball into Newports net toe Wulf’s second.
The remaining 12 minutes Wulf’s battled hard but despite frustrating Newport and keeping them at bay, they were unable to push on and reduce the deficit further. With no further goals scored the game finished 5-2 and a win for Newport.
