The 2nds had their first away trip of the season vs Market Drayton 1s at Lilleshall National Sports Centre.
High off their convincing win last week the team were in good spirits heading into the game with a familiar squad of 12.
Market Drayton set the tone early on settling into the first 10/15 mins much quicker than Old Wulfs who took some time to get organised. It was fairly even with no chances on goal for either side until a hit from outside the D by market Drayton casually rolled into the Old Wulfs goal. The away side allowed the ball to roll into the goal due to the numerous calls of "leave it" as the ball was hit from outside the D. Controversially the on field umpire deemed a Market Drayton player got a touch on the ball in the D and the goal was awarded - much to the dismay of the away side.
Old Wulfs grew into the half and began causing the opposition some issues but this pressure dissipated due to a long break having to be taken as a ball coming at pace was flicked up off a Old Wulfs stick and caught the eye of a opposition player - he was subsequently treated and then subbed off and would not rejoin the game.
The rest of the first half was battled out evenly with Old Wulfs feeling they were still very much in this game but the rumblings of discontent for some decisions not going our way was brewing.
The second half the 2s started well and looked liked we would score with the keeper pulling a great save off a short corner but again the half was very start stop and with the mentioned discontent now having boiled over it left the twos with 9 players on the pitch for a period of time. Unable to push for a draw/win the 2s saw out a 1-0 loss.
Mannys musings:
Opportunity missed in a game we were very much in and could have won.
Showed some ill discipline with the mental side of the game and it cost us.
